This year the Central Bible College 5K is a tribute to a great encourager, friend and professor, Roger Thomassen. Among his many interests, he was a supporter of our efforts to sponsor a 5K Run/Walk at Central Bible College. He took part in it each year since it’s inception in 2009, and encouraged others to get involved as well. He consistently outran people much younger than himself. Roger became the person to try to beat! He is greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. He has encouraged us not only to be better runners, but to be better people. |
Rev. Roger Thomassen, age 65, of Springfield, MO transitioned from this world to heaven on Saturday, August 11, 2012. Along with a deep love for his family, Roger's two passions in life were music and missions. He loved to serve people. Serving churches in Michigan, Louisiana, Minnesota and Missouri, he fulfilled the roles of youth pastor, minister of music, Christian education director, evangelist, co-pastor, senior pastor, teacher and professor. He taught and preached in various foreign countries including Jamaica, Togo, Benin, Belgium, France and Portugal. For the past 16 years, he taught music at Central Bible College in Springfield, MO. He was a gifted pianist and organist.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Karen; his daughter Krista and husband Lance; his son Josh and wife Mandi; his two brothers, George and wife Muriel, and Curt and wife Andrea; his nephews, Ronald and wife Michelle, Matthew and wife Joy, David and wife Libby; and his niece Alicia Visser and husband Mark.
